Independent Festival of Creative Communication brings you the 6th edition of Judgment Day Awards.
Creative minds from all over the world have joined to award each other. The Judgment Day Awards jury is the largest ever, made up of hundreds of creative folks working in advertising, the entertainment industry and publishing, guaranteeing impartiality. Get your Judgment Day Medal OR nominate someone else!

The time has come to show what you did and how you did it. Your colleagues will decide how good it was and was it good enough to earn you a medal. A Judgment Day Medal. Of course it’s not all about winning but let’s be honest, we all know that compliments from other professionals motivate us to try even harder. And in that, on Judgment Day, the last day of Independent Festival of Creative Communication, awards will be given to those creative individuals who left an indelible mark on the creative industries. Even if you don’t feel like participating you can nominate someone else. Someone who deserves a medal for his/hers work.

Judgment Day awards professionals in the commercial and nonprofit sector as well as students. Values on which Judgment Day is founded are authorship, independence and fair play. JDAs are independent from interest groups and are inspired and driven by creative work. JDA’s main features are awarding the creatives individually and a numerous jury which evaluates submissions on-line, ensuring objectivity and impartiality. The Judgment Day Crisis Center is officially sworn to promote authorship and craft excellence.

JDA – short history

This is the sixth edition of the Judgment Day Awards. It all started in 2010 when JDA were brought to life by the Kulturna Ofenziva Association. Back then it was called Sudnji Dan (Judgment Day in Croatian). By 2012 was oriented to awarding prizes to individuals within the Croatian advertising industry, which has now changed. Preference was given to creative people – individuals, not the agencies in which they work. The festival lasted for one day and it ended with an awards ceremony followed by a party and musical program. In 2013, when Boonika took over, the program was extended with live talks, workshops, lectures etc. Although Judgment Day Awards is an independent project it is also a part of the IFCC festival.

The function and role of the Pre-selection jury is to choose submissions that stand out in terms of professional creativity, performance and quality and remove those who partially or entirely don’t meet defined technical requirements.
  • GRAND JURY > Every person who submits work for the Judgment Day Awards becomes a member of the Grand Jury. A massive jury which assess the works that have entered the finals, consisting of hundreds of creative communications professionals from around the world. The exact number of jurors will be revealed after the judging.

GRAND IDEA – something NEW, big & innovative in fields of advertising, publishing, product design, software and entertainment
You’re not interested in sure shot solutions? You like reinventing and bettering the wheel? Excellent. This category is ideal for your work submission, your grand idea, a new way of creative communication, revolutionary solutions for advertising, basically concepts bordering on invention! Think of Facebook, Tetris, the iPhone, Napster, Old Spice commercials, Twitter, the T-shirt… but keep in mind that the concept itself is more important than the design.

COPYWRITING – in fields of advertising, publishing and entertainment
You are a copywriter and you are constantly creating, thinking, overthinking and developing new ideas and creative concepts in your studio or agency? Here you can submit your solutions for print ads, posters, TV commercials, radio commercials, promo movies, titles/headlines, slogans, product/service names, self-promotion, means of direct communication, publications or implementing new media.

ILLUSTRATION – in fields of advertising, publishing and entertainment
Creativity beats technical skills in this category. You can submit an illustration (or series of illustrations) created in any traditional or digital 2D/3D technique published in any media.

DESIGN: BRANDING/VISUAL IDENTITY – for companies, nonprofit organizations, personal use…
Your submitted design has to show a unique brand communication, set of graphic styles and visual distinction.

DESIGN: PRINT – advertising, publishing, promo materials…
You are allowed to use various creative methods for submitted design, combining words, symbols and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. Work can be published as a print advertisement, book cover, poster, billboard and so on.

DESIGN: PACKAGING – product packaging, packaging of promo materials…
Your submitted design of a product package may include a logo or other artwork, organized text or pure design elements such as images, shapes and colors which unify the design.

DESIGN: WEB – websites, banners and various online content
Your submitted work has to encompass several different aspects including webpage layout, content production, graphic design and a number of important elements including color, layout and overall graphic appearance.

DESIGN: MOBILE APPS & GAMES – games, lifestyle, sports…
Mobile applications are computer programs designed to run on smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. The term “app” is a shortening of the term “application software”. It has become very popular and in 2010 was listed as “Word of the Year” by the American Dialect Society. Now, let’s see how popular this category is! Submit your work and find out.

CONCEPT ARTIST/DESIGN – in fields of advertising, publishing and entertainment
Your submitted work has to be a form of art/design used to convey an idea for (but not limited to) film, video games, animation, retail, fashion, architectural and industrial design or comic books before it is used in the final version of the product. It can also include storytelling through storyboards or similar ways of presentation.

3D – architecture, 3D games, movies, TV commercials, visualization of physical products
In 3D computer graphics, 3D modeling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any three-dimensional surface of an object via specialized software. The product is called a 3D model which can also have textures and lightning applied to it. It can be displayed as a two-dimensional image through a process called 3D rendering or used in a computer simulation of physical phenomena. The model can also be physically created using 3D printing devices.

PHOTOGRAPHY – in fields of advertising, publishing and entertainment
Within this category you can submit photography work created using a traditional or digital technique. Your photos must promote a certain product, service, event and so on.

VFX – compositing, matchmoving, motion graphics, scripting, videoediting…
Your submitted work of visual effects (abbreviated VFX) has to show imagery created and/or manipulated outside the context of a live action shot. Visual effects involve the integration of live-action footage and generated imagery to create environments which look realistic, but would be dangerous, expensive, impractical, or simply impossible to capture on film.

ANIMATION – recorded material in 2D/3D animation
Animation is the process of creating motion and shape change illusion by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. Your submitted work of animation can be created digitally (2D/3D) or by using traditional techniques (stop motion or other).

VIDEO DIRECTING – TV commercials, cinematics for games, music videos, promo films…
Video direction of short formats is more than just shooting 30 second or few minutes movies! Successfully directing and editing a short project takes some serious pre-visualisation and planning. In some ways it is the most sublime form of filmmaking, and it is not surprising that some of the most successful film directors started with by making TV commercials (e.g. Ridley Scott).

MUSIC AND SOUND – music or sound effects for TV commercials, radio commercials, video games and movies
You have created music and/or sound effects for commercials, video games and movies? Great! This is the category you should submit your work in.

THE BEST OF THE UNPUBLISHED* – special recognition
*Special “The best of the unpublished” recognition goes to those creatives who have submitted unpublished, rejected or works that haven’t seen the light of day! Until now.

If it happens that one or more categories listed above gather less than 20 submissions (each) winners for those categories won’t be announced.

Submission Guidelines

The main idea behind the Judgement Day Awards is to reward authors. So, when filling out the application form remember that the author is the person who is most responsible for a particular work and she or he will be the one who wins the award. Of course, all other collaborators will be mentioned respectively.

To keep everything running like clockwork please pay attention to the Technical Requirements for submitting work. When completing the submission form make sure to correctly fill out all of the required information or upload a working internet address of your competing work so the jury selection can be performed smoothly.

The registration of the first work is free! Subsequent submissions by the same author will be charged and you will be notified about it as soon.

Technical Requirements

When submitting images please pay attention to the following technical requirements:
Required format and resolution: JPG / RGB / 72 dpi (no .zip files please)
Minimum width or height size: 800 px
Maximum width or height size: 1500 px
Minimum number of images: 1
Maximum number of images: 5

If your submission contains video and/or audio material please use Youtube, Vimeo and/or Soundcloud services to upload your materials and paste the links into the application form.

Important note: the URL address of your work (audio, video or web site) has to be valid and functional.
